Simple Cardio Exercises you can do at Home

Cardiovascular exercises or simply cardio exercises are exercises that increase your heart rate and make your heart pump blood faster. The aim of cardio exercises is to work your cardiovascular system thereby keeping your heart, lungs and muscles healthy. 

Cardio exercises can help lose weight, sleep better as well as reduce the risk of chronic diseases if done regularly. Cardios can be done outside or in the gym. However, if you don't feel like leaving your home, there are a number of cardios you can do at home. They include:

High Knees

This workout is easy to carry out and it involves running in place. It requires small space and you can easily do it at home. 

To carry out this exercise, stand straight with your legs together and arms by your side.  Raise on leg towards your chest, return it back and raise the other leg. Rinse and repeat. 

Butt Kicks

This is basically the opposite of high knees. Unlike the high knees where you raise your knees up, you raise your heels towards your butt in butt kicks. 

Crab Walk

This is a fun cardio workout. Do it regularly and you might have some crab superpowers. Just kidding. 

Crab Walk strengthens your upper arms and work out your legs, core and back. To carry out this exercise, Sit on the floor, knees bent and feet flat. Place your hands on the floor under your shoulders, fingers pointing forward. Lift your hips off the floor. “Walk” backward using your arms and legs, keeping your weight evenly distributed between your arms and legs.

Continue walking backward for the desired distance.


These exercises can easily be carried out at home. You should also consult a fitness expert if you are new to cardios or haven't worked out in a long time to determine the type of cardio that would fit your fitness levels.
